Discovery
In the early 1800's experimentalists Michael Faraday, Augustin Fresnel and Thomas Young have discovered and shown beyond any doubt that so called light rays have actually the structure of waves. |
The photoelectric effect and the invention of light particlesIn the late 1800's Henrich Hertz discovered the photoelectric effect. He discovered that an electric current made of electrons emanates out of a photoelectric material when the later is striken with light rays. Unfortunately Maxwell Equations do not explain the phenomenon. In 1905 Albert Einstein used the quantum of energy introduced in 1900 by Max Planck to explain the extraction of the electrons. Eisntein theorized that light rays are made of packets of energy, nowadays called photons, which through brute mechanical collisions knock real particles electrons off the photoelectric material. Later Compton allegedly proved experimentally that light is made of bullets like projectiles! |

Wave and particle are physically incompatibleWave and particle are incompatible in the physical world.Nevertheless particle/wave duality of light is now a fact of life in physics. And physicists went even further, extending this duality to material particles! One can mentally assert in its own mental world that wave and particle are one, even though that is non-sense in the physical world! One can even theorize that some experimental facts in some specific conditions are proof of this duality in the real world... The fact of the matter is that such incongruity is not required in Nature! A logical, much simpler explanation of the phenomenon, is described in great details in the book on your left. And for a succint explanation click: Wave Particle Duality |
